Tips for Cutting

  • Be confident with cuts. Press firmly and use single strokes. Jerky little movements will cause ragged cuts.

  • Move the fabric as little as possible until all cuts are made. Rearranging patches may cause the layers to separate and subsequent patches could be inaccurate.

  • As well as using a sharp blade, make sure the cutter is clean. Buildup of lint from fabric can reduce its effectiveness. After every cutting session, use a thick rag to wipe the blade before storing the cutter.

  • When you begin a quilt project, be attentive to following grain line arrows when placing and cutting out patches. If you've not been concerned with this before and rippling tops is a consistent problem, this may be the culprit.
